Labor Market In The Era Of Artificial Intelligence And Automation: A Comparative Analysis Of Global Trends And The Experience Of Uzbekistan

Abstract
The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation technologies is fundamentally transforming global labor markets. Although the dual impact of these technologies – the reduction of traditional jobs and the increasing demand for highly skilled professions – has been widely studied globally, research comparing the economy of Central Asia, particularly Uzbekistan, with global trends is still insufficient. To fill this gap, this article conducts a comparative analysis between global AI trends and the labor market of Uzbekistan. The research utilizes methods of deduction and cause-and-effect analysis, employing international reports such as the WEF’s “Future of Jobs Report 2025”, the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) “AI Adoption and Its Impact on Jobs (2025)”, and the UN and ILO’s “Mind the AI Divide (2024)”, as well as empirical literature related to Uzbekistan, as secondary sources. The results of the analysis indicate that three global trends – the contraction of middle – skill jobs, the growing demand for highly skilled specialists, and the exacerbation of the digital divide – are also being confirmed in the labor market of Uzbekistan. While plans to cut 2,141 administrative positions in the public sector reflect the global digitalization pattern, the growing demand for AI and cloud computing specialists aligns with WEF projections. However, the “Robot Productivity Paradox” identified by Flores (2022) has not yet been confirmed in the case of Uzbekistan, which remains an important area for future research. The article concludes with practical recommendations for the state, the education system, and the private sector, aimed at ensuring inclusive adaptation to technological changes – that is, adaptation that encompasses all strate of society.
